But before buying anything, definitely have some fun and learn with the free ones. I also have several paid drum VST's which I'll try to describe.
Impact XT gives you tons of options in terms of tuning the sounds over a wide range, altering ADSR envelopes and filtering etc. I prefer addictive for my personal work, and live tracking for more serious stuff. Superior also requires some general audio knowledge in order to completely take advantage of it. You could use Impact XT with something like ATOM as the control surface for programming the grooves. I find addictive drums sounding better out of the box, but superior sounds better once you put the time. Explore fully the single hits that are on offer with the PreSonus included content. Maybe look around and get your hands on some. There are tons of free libraries out there.
I would be looking for some single hits mainly and the types of sounds that would suit the electronic style you are into. The larger package doesn’t just mean more libraries.
While EZDrummer 2 gives you a core library of around 3GB, Superior Drummer 3 offers 230GB of drum sounds and libraries. They are more quantised though and meant to sound like drum machines as opposed to live playing.Īll the things you need are right there now. An obvious argument for wanting Superior Drummer 3 over EZDrummer 2 is that the breadth of sound libraries in SD3 is staggering. TD always programmed interesting drum grooves that always fitted very well into what their music was saying. Many here are suggesting expensive live sounding drum plugins and grooves but the question will be will that suit the music you are wanting to create. If you creating Tangerine Dream like music then you may not need to spend any money at all.
